Import Products from Shopify to DZBuild

Shopify Import copies your whole Shopify catalogue โ€” products, variants, images and collections โ€” into your DZBuild store in one click. It is built for merchants who already sell on Shopify and want to move to DZBuild without retyping a single product, and it connects through Shopify's official authorisation screen, so there is no token to copy and paste anywhere.

How it worksโ€‹

The add-on page walks you through a three-step wizard shown at the top of the screen: Connect โ†’ Choose products โ†’ Import.

  1. Connect. You type your Shopify domain and DZBuild sends you to Shopify's own permission screen. Shopify asks you to grant read-only access to your products, product listings and inventory โ€” nothing on your Shopify store can be modified.
  2. Choose products. Back on the add-on page you load a preview of your Shopify products โ€” each one with its thumbnail, price and variant count โ€” and tick the ones you want, or import everything.
  3. Import. The import runs in the background with a live progress bar. You can close the page and come back later.

What comes across for each productโ€‹

  • Product fields โ€” name, description, price, compare-at price, SKU and weight. Weight is converted to kilograms whatever unit Shopify used (g, kg, lb, oz).
  • Images โ€” every image is downloaded from Shopify and re-uploaded to your DZBuild storage, keeping Shopify's order. The first image becomes the product's main image. Your storefront never hotlinks Shopify.
  • Variants โ€” Shopify's option groups become DZBuild variant groups (up to three, such as Color ร— Size ร— Material), and every Shopify variant becomes one DZBuild combination carrying its own SKU, stock and price. A group named Color / Colour / Couleur / ุงู„ู„ูˆู† is created as a colour swatch group, and recognised colour names get their swatch colour automatically; every other group is created as a text group.
  • Stock โ€” quantities come across as well. Products that have variants are switched to per-combination stock so each combination keeps its own number.
  • Collections โ€” each Shopify collection the product belongs to becomes a DZBuild category, created on the fly if it does not exist yet. The first one becomes the product's main category.
tip

A Shopify product that has already been imported is skipped on the next run, so re-running an import never creates duplicates. To refresh already-imported products instead, turn on Overwrite if already imported.

Benefitsโ€‹

  • Migrate in an afternoon, not a month. A catalogue of hundreds of products with photos and variants lands in DZBuild without a single copy-paste โ€” the work that usually blocks a store move disappears.
  • Your photos live on your own store. Images are re-hosted on DZBuild's own storage, so your product pages keep loading normally after you close your Shopify account.
  • No risk to your Shopify store. The authorisation is read-only, so nothing you approve can edit, delete or unpublish anything on the Shopify side. You can disconnect at any moment.
  • Variants survive the move. Colour and size matrices, per-combination SKUs and per-combination stock arrive intact instead of being flattened into separate products.
  • Import at your own pace. Pick a handful of products to test the result first, then come back and import the rest โ€” already-imported products are skipped automatically.
  • You stay in control of what goes live. Imported products can land as drafts so you review prices and translations before customers ever see them.

How to activateโ€‹

  1. Open Dashboard โ†’ Add-ons at /dashboard/addons.
  2. Find Shopify Import under Tools.
  3. Click Activate. The add-on requires the Pro plan or higher โ€” on the Free plan the card refuses activation and asks you to upgrade.
  4. Open the add-on's Settings button to reach its page at /dashboard/addons/shopify-import.
warning

If the connect form is greyed out and the page shows a configuration notice, the Shopify connection is not available on the platform side yet โ€” contact support rather than retrying.

Using itโ€‹

Connect your Shopify storeโ€‹

  1. On the add-on page, type your Shopify domain in Your Shopify domain. The field accepts mystore.myshopify.com, the bare mystore, or a pasted Shopify admin URL โ€” all three are normalised for you.
  2. Click Connect with Shopify and approve the read-only access request on Shopify.
  3. You come back to a Connected card showing the shop name, its currency and the connection date, plus a Disconnect button.
warning

If your Shopify shop currency differs from your DZBuild store currency, a warning appears on the Connected card and prices are imported exactly as they are, with no conversion. In that case the Publish imported products option is also left off by default so you can fix prices before anything goes live.

Choose what to importโ€‹

  • Click Show my products to load the preview. Products arrive in pages with a button to load more, each row showing the image, title, price and number of variants.
  • Use the search box to filter the loaded list, and Select all / Clear to tick or untick everything at once.
  • Open Advanced options (collapsed by default) for four toggles:
    • Include drafts โ€” unpublished Shopify products. Skipped by default.
    • Include archived โ€” archived (hidden) Shopify products. Skipped by default.
    • Overwrite if already imported โ€” update products imported earlier instead of skipping them. Images are not downloaded again.
    • Publish imported products โ€” on, products go live immediately; off, they are saved as drafts for review.
  • The import button reads Import all when nothing is ticked, and Import selected (N) once you pick products.

Follow the importโ€‹

  • A progress bar shows how many products have been processed out of the total, plus counters for failed and skipped products.
  • Cancel stops the run โ€” the products already imported stay.
  • Only one import can run per store at a time. Starting a second one while another is in flight is refused with a clear message.
  • When the run ends you get a summary: imported, failed, and skipped (already imported). From there you can jump to View products, Import other products, or retry.
  • If everything was skipped, the page tells you so and offers Enable overwrite & retry in one click. If some products failed, the button becomes Retry failed products, and an Error details section lists what went wrong.

Disconnectโ€‹

Disconnect removes the link to your Shopify shop. Imported products stay in your DZBuild store; you simply have to authorise again if you want to import more later.

FAQโ€‹

Does importing change anything on my Shopify store? No. The access you grant is read-only on products, product listings and inventory, so the add-on can read your catalogue but cannot modify, unpublish or delete anything on Shopify.

What happens if I run the import twice? Products already imported are skipped, so you never end up with duplicates. If you want to refresh them with the latest Shopify data, tick Overwrite if already imported before starting โ€” that updates the product fields and rebuilds its variants, but does not download the images a second time.

Will my prices be converted to Algerian dinars? No. Prices are imported exactly as they are in Shopify. If the two currencies differ, the page warns you and keeps imported products as drafts by default so you can set the right prices before publishing. See Products for editing them in bulk.

Do I have to keep the page open until it finishes? No. The import runs in the background โ€” you can close the tab and come back to the add-on page later to see the progress bar or the final summary.

My Shopify products have colour and size options. Do those survive? Yes. Each option group becomes a DZBuild variant group and each Shopify variant becomes a combination with its own SKU, stock and price. Colour groups are created as swatches.
