# Menu and footer links

The menu is the row of links at the top of your store, and the side menu on phones. The footer links are the columns of links at the bottom of every page. Both are set in Customize, for every plan.

Until you save your own links, your store shows the automatic ones: home, all products, your categories, track order and contact.

## Where to find it

In the dashboard sidebar, open **Personnaliser la boutique / تخصيص المتجر**, then **Personnaliser / تخصيص** ([`/dashboard/customize`](https://dzbuild.com/dashboard/customize)), and tap the row **Menu et liens / القائمة والروابط**. It comes after the header row, **En-tête et Logo / الرأسية والشعار**.

The editor has two tabs: **Menu du haut / القائمة العلوية** and **Liens du bas de page / روابط أسفل الصفحة**. The first time you open it, both hold the automatic links and a note says so, so you can change them instead of starting empty.

## Add a link

1. In the **Menu du haut / القائمة العلوية** tab, tap **Ajouter un lien / أضف رابط**.
2. Pick what the link opens under **Où mène ce lien ? / وين يروح هذا الرابط؟**. The table below lists the nine choices. For a category or a page, choose it in **Mène vers / يروح إلى**.
3. Write a name in **Nom affiché / الاسم اللي يظهر** if you want a word of your own. Leave it empty to show the target's own name in the visitor's language.
4. Tap **Enregistrer les modifications / حفظ التغييرات** at the bottom of Customize.

| Choice | What the link opens |
| ---------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Accueil / الصفحة الرئيسية** | Your store's home page. |
| **Tous les produits / كل المنتجات** | The page with all your products. |
| **Liste des catégories / قائمة الأقسام** | A drop-down list of your main categories and their subcategories, with a link to all products. |
| **Une catégorie / قسم واحد** | One category you pick. |
| **Une de vos pages / صفحة من صفحاتك** | One of your published [store pages](https://dzbuild.com/docs/storefront/pages.md), such as About us or Returns. |
| **Suivi de commande / تتبع الطلب** | The page where buyers follow their order. |
| **Contact / تواصل معنا** | The contact part of your home page. |
| **Panier / السلة** | The buyer's cart. |
| **Autre lien / رابط آخر** | Any address you type. |

**Autre lien / رابط آخر** needs a name. In **Adresse du lien / الرابط**, its address can be a page of your store such as `/pages/delivery`, a full address such as `https://instagram.com/your-store`, a phone number written `tel:0550123456` or an email written `mailto:contact@your-store.dz`. If you type `instagram.com/your-store`, the editor adds `https://` for you. An address that starts with `javascript:` or `data:` is refused.

## Labels and languages

A label is the word buyers see. It can have up to 40 characters.

When you leave a label empty, the link shows the name of what it opens: the word **Accueil** or **الرئيسية** for Home, the name of the category, or the title of the page. Built-in words follow the visitor's language, so on a store with the [Multi-Language Store](https://dzbuild.com/docs/addons/multi-language.md) add-on, a buyer who reads in French sees French words. A label you type shows the same in every language.

## Sub-links

A link of the top menu can hold up to 10 sub-links. They open in a drop-down list when the buyer points at the link, and inside the side menu on phones. Open a link and tap **Ajouter un sous-lien / أضف رابط تحته**, or drag a link by its handle and drop it under another link. **Monter / للأعلى** and **Descendre / للأسفل** change the order.

Sub-links go one level deep: a sub-link cannot hold sub-links of its own, and the **Liste des catégories / قائمة الأقسام** link cannot be a sub-link.

A category link of the top row has the switch **Afficher ses sous-catégories / أظهر الأقسام اللي تحته**. When it is on, up to 10 subcategories of that category appear under the link on their own, and new subcategories you add later appear too. A sub-link to a category has no such switch.

## The wide panel for categories

The switch **Grand menu pour les catégories / قائمة عريضة للأقسام** changes how categories show on a computer. When it is on, a link whose sub-links have their own sub-links opens a wide panel, with one column per sub-link and its own links inside: the **Liste des catégories / قائمة الأقسام** link when your main categories have subcategories, or a category link with its subcategories switch on, which then shows a third level, up to 10 under each subcategory. On phones the side menu shows the same levels: tap the **+** next to a row to open the level under it.

The switch is off by default. It is useful when your categories go three levels deep: see [Products](https://dzbuild.com/docs/selling/products.md) to nest categories. The **Liste des catégories / قائمة الأقسام** link shows up to 10 main categories with 5 subcategories each in the menu bar, 12 with 6 on the Promobi theme.

## Footer links

The footer holds up to 3 groups: tap **Ajouter un groupe / أضف مجموعة** for a new one. Each group has a title in **Titre du groupe / عنوان المجموعة** and from 1 to 10 links, shown as one column at the bottom of your store. The two automatic groups, quick links and categories, show their title in the visitor's language: the editor shows it greyed in the field, and you can leave it empty. A title you type shows the same in every language. A group you add needs a title, and every group needs at least one link. Footer links have no sub-links.

The footer links use the same nine choices as the top menu. A **Liste des catégories / قائمة الأقسام** link in the footer goes to the categories part of your home page.

## See it in the preview

While you add, move, rename or delete a link, the Customize preview shows the menu and the footer as your store will render them, without reloading the page. Hover over a link on a computer to see its drop-down list or its wide panel. On a phone, tap **Voir l’aperçu / شوف في المعاينة**, then open the side menu in the preview.

## Save

Tap **Enregistrer les modifications / حفظ التغييرات** at the bottom of Customize. The new links are live on your store as soon as they are saved. A buyer who opened a page just before can see the old links for a few minutes.

If someone else changed the menu in another window since you opened it, the editor shows **Le menu a changé ailleurs / تبدّلت القائمة في مكان آخر**. **Garder mes changements / احتفظ بتغييراتي** saves your version over the other change. **Charger la dernière version / حمّل آخر نسخة** loads the latest one and drops your unsaved changes.

## Links that disappear on their own

The menu follows your catalog. A link to a category you delete or turn off, or to a page you delete or turn back into a draft, leaves the menu and the footer, with its sub-links. A footer group left with no link is hidden. The other links stay.

## Go back to the automatic links

Tap **Revenir au menu automatique / ارجع للقائمة التلقائية** and confirm: the editor puts the automatic links back, and your store shows them once you save. This button is the way to drop your own menu, since the top menu cannot be left empty: **Ajoutez au moins un lien dans le menu du haut / أضف رابطاً واحداً على الأقل في القائمة العلوية**. The general reset of Customize leaves your menu as it is.

The automatic top menu holds home, all products, the categories drop-down (when your store has categories), track order and contact. The automatic footer holds a group of quick links (home, all products, categories, cart and track order) and a group with your first five categories.

## Limits

| What | Limit |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------- |
| Links in the top menu | 12 |
| Sub-links under one link | 10 |
| Footer groups | 3, with up to 10 links each |
| Label | 40 characters |

The limits are the same on every plan. Home, All products, the categories list, Track order, Contact and Cart each appear only once among the top links; sub-links are not counted.
